Facets of Berlin’s anonymity for people who just moved to the city, 2006

Berlin, Germany

Berlin stands for freedom, individuality, and unlimited possibilities but also for stress, isolation and anonymity. Each person experiences Berlin’s anonymity differently, depending on his or her character and personal story. To break through the anonymity means familiarizing oneself, in the widest sense, with the surroundings in which one lives – with the streets, places and with the people who live there. In what way one does this depends on the respective personality. Through the photographs and quotes a picture emerges of how the anonymity of Berlin affects the ‘New Berliner’.
